I love smoothies, so I’m always on the lookout for delicious and healthy recipes. I came across this recipe when I was working out with a group of moms. We had started our group as a way to motivate each other to workout 5 days a week and to eat more healthy foods.
We would meet, read something inspirational, and then exercise. We also shared healthy eating plans and recipes to stay fit and to nourish our bodies.
We were searching for the best detox smoothie recipe when we came across what we called the Ultimate Green Smoothie, though the ingredients actually turn it a yummy purple color.
The Ultimate Green Smoothie is designed to provide your daily recommended amount of vegetables and fruits. And, what’s more, the combination of fruits and vegetables are designed to detox and help heal your body.
I’ve used 8 oz of this recipe as my morning boost drink and then again as my evening meal replacement. It’s delicious and filling, and good for my body.
Benefits of Green Smoothies
When added to a healthy diet and lifestyle, green smoothies can detoxify, cleanse, boost immunity and provide needed vitamins and minerals for your body.
Smoothies include the fiber with the juice, so you get the benefits of the fiber bulk and the vitamins and minerals extracted in the juice.
According to the American Cancer Society, we need to eat 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables each day to prevent cancer and other diseases.
With green smoothies, you can get all of your needed vegetables and fruit in one 8 – 16 oz drink. I struggle with eating the recommended amount each day when trying to eat the whole fruit or veggie, so I lean to smoothies to help me stay healthy.
Green smoothies provide the nutrition, vitamins, minerals, healthy carbohydrates, fiber and low fat whole food that you need to lose weight quickly, safely and effectively without starving yourself.”
If these reasons have convinced you to try adding smoothies to your daily diet, then I challenge you to begin this week.
Here’s my ultimate detox smoothie recipe to get you started…
The Ultimate Green Detox Smoothie Recipe
1 Roma tomato
2 celery stalks
1 handful fresh spinach
1/4 cup purple cabbage
6 broccoli florets
1 leaf stalk kale
1/8 cup fresh kelp or 2 sheets of dried (opt)
1 cup fresh papaya
1 cup fresh pineapple
6 large fresh or frozen strawberries
1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
1 cup fresh or frozen boysenberries or blackberries
1 cup fresh or frozen raspberries
1 cup red grapes
1/2 cup red sweet apples, diced
1/2 orange (with rind, opt)
Soymilk, enough to blend
Fill blender with the first 7 vegetable ingredients and add enough soymilk to blend smoothly. Then add all remaining ingredients and blend until smooth. Add additional soymilk as needed.
This makes a large batch, so you can either share it with your family or a friend, or freeze the extra in glass canning jars, sealed tightly. Be sure to fill the jar to the top to help avoid extra air getting in and losing some of the precious nutrients. If you keep it in the refrigerator, be sure to drink it within a week.
