This dish gets its name from the shape it makes once assembled on the plate. It quick, easy and delicious and is a meal my family requests often.
I’ve listed the vegetarian way of making it, but it can easily be adapted for non-vegetarians.
2 Morningstar Grillers, original
6 Morningstar Patties, original
1/2 onion, chopped
2 tbsp Italian seasoning
1 jar of Prego Tomato Basil spaghetti sauce (or sauce of your choice)
1 can Bush’s Grillin Beans – Steakhouse flavor (or flavor of your choice)
Corn chips or tortilla chips
shredded Daiya cheese or other vegan alternative
ranch salad dressing or vegan sour cream
Saute onions in non-stick frying pan until translucent. Add thawed and crumbled Grillers and Patties, stirring until browned. Add sauce, beans and Italian seasoning. Heat until bubbling, then remove from heat.
On a plate, layer corn chips/tortillas, sauce and meat mixture, cheese, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, olives and ranch. Stir together or eat as is.
Another alternative is to substitute black or red beans for the meat to make it vegan. You can also omit the chips and roll up the ingredients in a tortilla. The options are endless.
This is a fun dish for kids to make and assemble. It takes about 15 minutes to prepare and leftovers can be refrigerated and eaten within the week.
